Converting a 19th century chapel into a bar may seem audacious, but the Pitcher and Piano chain have sparked enough curiousity to keep the masses flocking in.

The Venue
The word impressive doesn't do justice to the stunning surroundings of the Pitcher and Piano - it's grandeur is jaw-dropping.

Seating is ample downstairs, and upstairs, which is separated by a bridge, there's also plenty of places to sit. The fantastically ornate stained-glass windows and the high ceiling provide a gorgeous backdrop and finish it off beautifully.

The People
Being in the heart of Nottingham’s trendiest district, The Lace Market, there are a large amount of people with expendable income in the Pitcher and Piano. But it's not exclusively high flyers who come here, in fact most of Nottingham has walked through the door at some time or another, such is the allure of this beautiful building.

It gets absolutely heaving at the weekend, but due to the high ceilings it never feels claustrophobic. The bar staff are consistently excellent and, along with being efficient, they seem to take great pride in the real skill of being a bartender.

The Food
The food at the Pitcher and Piano won't blow your socks off, but it does meet chain-pub standards, and sometimes even exceeds them. It's in the style of modern-day pub cuisine, offering such staples as fish and chips (£8.95), pan-fried halloumi salad (£7.95) and a lamb and rosemary burger (£8.95). There's something to satisfy most appetites and the food is good quality and served in great portion sizes.

The Drink
All shorts in the Pitcher and Piano are served as doubles, unless you ask for a single. There is only a small sign notifying customers of this and it is not uncommon to see people quibbling over prices that exceed £5 a drink.

A good selection of bottled and draught beers are available and this is also true of the wines, with a standard bottle of house wine costing in the region of £13.50. Cocktails are priced at £5.75 for one and £15.95 for a jug, however, the measures used are not clear.

The Last Word
If you haven’t checked out Nottingham’s Pitcher and Piano yet, then it really needs to be put on your to do list. Even though it's part of a chain, it stands out from the crowd and credit here needs to be given to its marvellous surroundings.
