Fellows Morton and Clayton is a great place to remind us what a pub should be.

Places like this endure for a good length of time because they know how to serve up what people want and make it look easy.

The Venue
Sandwiched in the triangle between the Broadmarsh bus station, Nottingham train station and the canal side pubs, anyone who has lived in Nottingham for a while knows this is not the best part of the city centre. However, the Fellows, as it's known, manages to maintain a pleasant feel.

Walking into the main bar area, the comfortable and familiar feel of a real pub is all around. Past the bar area is a lower seating area. TV screens are aplenty which makes this an excellent venue to watch many of the big sporting events.

To the rear of this lower seating area is the way to the toilet where, on your way, you can see a small glimpse of the in-house micro-brewery, which has been producing beer for many years.

There's a good outside area where you can eat, and as it's a stone's throw from the canal and decorated by many hanging baskets it's a pleasant place to enjoy a meal or drink.

The People
With the courts in close vicinity as well as both the bus and train stations, you will find many lawyers, transient businessmen and people waiting for connections.

There’s a good mob of regulars too, taking in all ages. The staff are great and attentive and leave all their airs and graces at home. This place is a definite comfort zone for most types of people.

The Food
The food here is certainly well above average and is served all day long in the bar area and at lunch times only in the gallery restaurant.

Its diverse menu is sure to satisfy every taste. Whether you choose the sublimely fresh Spanish haddock (£10.95) served up with New Zealand mussels, salmon and king prawns all in a rich tomato sauce, or opt for a lighter bite (there is a great choice of sandwiches such as feta and roasted veg, rump steak and stilton). All butties are served with chips as standard.

The Drink
Their micro brewery is a huge bonus and a unique selling point for the Fellows. It serves two of its own beers along with four other hand-pulled ales, which range in price from £2.10 to £2.70, fantastic value for such a central location.

There are another six draught beers like Stella, Guinness and Strongbow, so nothing unusual, but all in a good price range. They serve the standard line of spirits, soft drinks and wines which makes it easy for everybody to find something to refresh them.

The Last Word
Fellows Morton and Clayton is a great place for a relaxed lunch in a real pub environment. The food won't disappoint and neither will their home-brewed beer.
