took a group of people for a christmas meal 3 course for £16.95. the meal was ok but not worth the price portions were very small, where do they get off charging that price, food swimming in gravy boiled new potatoes with the christmas meal, between 8 one salt and pepper pot, very dissapointing would not ever go back there for a meal. poor food for what they are charging what a rip off.

The review above is complete rubbish... As a regular diner at the elwes i can`t believe that someboby could publish crap like that!!!! over Christmas you paid £5.65 per dish, and you think you`ve been ripped off!. Can i say that my self or my family has NEVER had bad food or service for that matter. There is always a very friendly service from all the staff and the waitress service has always been second to non. Maybe if you had asked for more salt and pepper pots they could and would have been provided. So after my rant about pathetic rewiews, please visit the Elwes arms and you won`t be dissapointed. Maybe people who complain over such small things should next year prehaps book at K.F.C

It is a shame you feel this way about your Christmas meal, did you inform the member of staff you were unhappy? Just looking through the bookings and struggling to find a table of 8 that booked with us for Christmas fayre? What can be done to give you back some confidence in the high standards we set at the Elwes Arms?

Went there tonight had great friendly sevice, very good food and the staff looked after us so well, that just before our food came they even ask if we would like more drinks. I spent the afternoon here with a few friends and I would highly recommend it to others. The staff were friendly and attentive without being too pushy. The atmosphere was great so we felt really welcome (even though it was our first visit) and we'd definately go back. Prices were reasonable and the quality of service was great. A great bar, a great atmosphere and great service. Top Notch!

this is one of the best pubs in the area, always offering a great service from there friendly staff, the premises/the beer/food all very well looked after.

the team seemed to be very caring, whilst the manager (i think was called becy) seemed to be well in control.

overall my sunday lunch was superb offering a good selection on there carvery, whilst the beers tasting very clean and crisp (a sign of a well managed pub)

The Elwes Arms is a great local, and I've always enjoyed, eating, drinking and socialising there. The staff are welcoming and there is always a great atmosphere, especially over the weekends. The service is great and there is no other pub I go to as often as the Elwes Arms. Its a great, cosy, traditional pub!

I totally disagree with the review that has been made. The Elwes arms isn't just any pub its outstanding. With friendly staff, great food and a fantastic atmosphere. Staff are very friendly and very helpful, they always have a great attitude towards their jobs and are very smartly dressed. The locals that come to the elwes have been doing so for many years. My family have been coming here since I was in a baby carrier. My family visits the pub every friday along with friends and we have a fantastic evening.

Locals feel safe and are welcomed by the staff that are always there on hand. Beccy Webster is fantastic with what she is doing. She has changed the place around completely, also she is great to staff and customers and giving them all they want. To make sure their time at the Elwes is special! Many thanks, the Eccles family <3jamie, Samantha and Sian. Xxx

As said by the others this review is well out of date and is completely in-accurate. Since being taken over there has been a massive revamp which was pursued off Beccy's own back with no help from the brewery in way of finance or labour, the place is as welcoming as any pub possibly can be to the younger and older generations. The locals that come in have been doing so for many years because they feel safe and are welcomed by the staff that are always willing to do anything they can to make every visit a special one! Beccy works her socks off to give customers and staff what they want, I recommend that a new and upto date review is done in the near future and I'm sure it will prove what I have written. Ben Bexon.

It is noted that the review dates back to August 2008 as a regular visitor over the last 9 months since the change of management, lead by Beccy Webster , I would suggest that a further review is undertaken with a view to obtaining a correct and balanced assessment of the current excellent user experience enjoyed by all of the patrons of the Elwes Arms.

as this piece was written in August 2008 i would like to comment on a view improvements made at the elwes and would appreciate a second review.....

taken over in march 2009_ as the brewery give no help to redecorating the new young management have given the inside a face lift and also the out

the menu has completely changed homemade and fresh being the main focus with daily specials

staff are in uniform and always happy to help

drinks are still of similar price but this again in preset by the brewery but are of the quality you dont mind paying for

to be honest it is still quiet at the lunchtimes but with no passing trade and no surrounding industry everyone in the area is at work however this venue is more of an evening pub and if you were to pop by on a Friday or Sunday night there would be a completely different picture painted i can guarantee

I totally disagree with who ever has written this and would firstly like to know when this was written. As a regular to the Elwes Arms it is a friendly welcoming atmosphere and a family pub where a large group of us goes for a meal with our children every Saturday evening. The pub was taken over in march 2009 and since then has been given a face lift I think it is unfair to make such comments as you have on only a couple if not less visits! The menu has traditional pub food on it just like an other traditional pub food and we are certainly satisfied. Did you actually ever eat there?

Almost every weekend there is a party or karaoke/disco going on and is usually buzzing with people so it is also unfair to say it should be "busy busy busy and its not"yes lunchti'mes are quiet but due to the area most of the families work during the day and go out in the evening there is no industry around the pub and what pub is not at is quietest in the dayim am sure if you revisited the elwes you would have a "pleasant experience"
