The Alley Cafe Bar’s ethos is to combine the style of a bar with the relaxed feel of a European cafe, while providing a healthy range of vegetarian and vegan cuisine.

The Venue
Tucked away just off Longrow, close to Market Square, The Alley Cafe Bar is located on the left hand side of Cannon Court. As you enter you are led up stairs to a snug, wood clad and warmly lit bar.

Comfortable couches and table seating fill the room and there's a saloon style eating area adjacent to the bar. It's quite small so you're best off getting their just before the lunch hour rush to ensure you get a seat.

The People
The promise of good vibes and a laidback atmosphere is not an understatement. The crowd is a mix of young and old who have stopped by for either lunch or a swift drink before heading back into the bustle of town.

It attracts a fairly arty crowd as it hosts local art exhibitions as well as creative events and DJs play every Friday and Saturday. Throughout the week ambient music resonates throughout the bar but does not encroach on conversation, and the staff are upbeat and are happy to chat with the customers.

The Food
The menu is vast and is split into different sections. The Good Morning section is breakfast-style food that's served all day, Things To Share includes dips, Italian-style antipasto for £4.25 and cheese on toast for £3.50.

There are also sandwiches with quirky names like the Winston, which is roasted seasonal vegetable with hummus served on a choice of breads and wraps and filled with salad. These cost between £3 and £4.55. The food is fresh, extremely tasty and well portioned while the service is prompt and courteous.

The Drink
The bar is even more stacked than the food menu. There are natural juices and shakes ranging from £2.50 for a freshly squeezed orange juice to £6 for a Bollywood Lassi (vodka, mango, raspberry, yoghurt) or a Bloody Alley (vegan Bloody Mary). There are also fair-trade organic coffees and teas from £1.10.

But, be aware, there are offers and you can buy one and get one free from 5pm to 8pm, Monday to Friday. Also there is a large range of spirits and organic wines along with organic Champagne for £20 a bottle.

The Last Word
Alley Cafe Bar is heaven for vegetarians and vegans but it caters to all tastes. Its great atmosphere and ethical standpoint makes it one of Nottingham’s most treasured bars.
