Nottingham’s legendary Rock City hosts club nights and live gigs from big names through to local bands.

The Venue
Located on Talbot Street, Rock City is a mammoth club which consists of three rooms. The main hall has a vast dance floor with room for more than 1,000 people and a balcony section overlooking the arena with two bars to either side of the stage.

Then there's a smaller room with a 300 capacity, a stage and another bar. The third room is through a side door, where there is a small stage towards the back of the room while a large bar dominates the left hand side of the room. As it's a live music venue expect sticky floors, well-used toilets and bars that have seen better days.

Rock City is run by the same people who run The Rescue Rooms. While it's in no way as intimate as Rescue Rooms, it pulls in some massive acts including Feeder, The Fratellis, Motorhead, David Bowie and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The People
There are various nights that run throughout the week to cater to all tastes. Thursday night is a student affair while Friday plays host to The Love Shack where the playlist is mainly popular 80s and 90s dance. Saturday is alternative night, although the main theme is rock-based music.

The staff are a bit uptight and service is sluggish, while the bouncers are neither courteous nor responsive. Rock City attracts a mixed bag, due to the mix of music that's played here.

Students, ageing rock fans and just the music mad turn up here to hear their favourite band. The vibe is good, albeit a little sweaty and the general feel of the place is a good one.

The Drink
With the sluggish service you can expect a bit of a wait at the four large, busy bars. A whisky mixer tastes rather syrupy, however the beer bottles are chilled and the promotions, which change weekly, are reasonably priced at £1.50 for a bottle of Rolling Rock.

The Last Word
Due to its size and reputation, you have to visit Rock City at least once. The only down side to what essentially is a good night is the attitude of the staff. While five star treatment isn't expected, it would be nice to a least receive a small amount of courtesy as a paying customer.
